March 22nd

After Jimmy left for his meeting, I took my time exploring the area around the Capitol Building. There's so much to see and do. I can't believe this was only our 2nd full day in DC. I feel like I've seen so much, yet feel like there is still so much more to explore.

The Summer House

While walking along, I saw this interesting structure. I had no idea what it was, so I peeked beyond the gates, snapped my picture and counted on the wealth of the internet to inform me what this was. Happily, I wasn't disappointed! It's a small structure built for visitors to rest and enjoy the drinking water from the fountain inside.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the same luck finding out what this was...

Looks like a fancy drinking fountain...

...but I found no information on it whatsoever. Strange because it's pretty ornate for 'just a drinking fountain' directly in front of the Capitol building. It became one of those things that started bugging me and I was (almost) relentless in trying to find information on it.

They wanted to make sure we knew this bench was on "US Capitol Grounds".

I thought this was Marine One...nope, just a US Park Police Officer. Not that I would have thrown a party or anything if it were.

The Library of Congress

I didn't know that I could have gone in. I figured I'd need advance reservations for a tour or something. Well...next time.

Across the street from the Capitol Building is the Library of Congress and...
